‘Sunset’ is an outstanding Green Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) cultivar selected at our nursery following extensive observation and trial. This is a grafted cultivar expected to feature a rounded canopy shape at maturity. We estimate that ‘Sunset’ will reach a mature height of up to 25 meters with a canopy spread of approximately 10 to 12 meters. In its youth, it exhibits a pyramidal structure reminiscent of trees with strong apical dominance, which promotes orderly branch growth and a well-balanced, easily trainable scaffold.
Importantly, because this cultivar is grafted here in our nursery, ‘Sunset’ delivers exceptional uniformity characteristic of clonally propagated trees in contrast to the high degree of variability seen in seed-propagated stock. Like its relative, the Green Ash ‘Sunrise’, ‘Sunset’ excels with a brilliant and spectacular fall foliage display; however, its autumn color is significantly more consistent and pronounced. Furthermore, as a male cultivar, the tree remains clean and free of seed pods, making it ideal for street and avenue plantings, as well as for shade in parks and woodlands.
The foliage texture of this cultivar is softly pubescent, velvety, and tomentose to the touch.

Sequoia sempervirens
